Commonwealth and Chevening scholarships offered by the UK Government for this year have been running for more than a month.
The Commonwealth applications are closing in the next one week (November 18) while Chevening concludes on November 1, presenting eligible candidates with busy two weeks.
University Education and Research Principal Secretary Simon Nabukwesi has asked Kenyans to tap the 2023 Commonwealth scholarship opportunities.
There are 19 masters’s and 18 PhD full scholarships slots for Kenyans in the 2023 window in food security and nutrition, manufacturing, health care, and housing.
“Online applications started on September 6, 22 and will end on October 18, 2022. Scholars from both public and private universities can apply and should submit three sets of hard copies of prior application form from the Ministry and the Commonwealth Scholarship application form with all the certified copies to the Directorate of University Education,” Mr Nabukwesi said.
Master’s hopefuls should have graduated with at least second upper-division, have two referees, a proposal in the area of study showing potential impact on the country’s development, a study plan and be below 35 years.
PhD applicants require two referees and one supervisor in a UK institution, a study proposal and should be below 45 years.
Chevening scholars are admitted to UK universities for either one- or two-year taught master’s and are required to return to their home countries after graduation.
To be eligible, “you must return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended,” the programme says.
Funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the Chevening scholarship covers tuition, economy flight, a monthly stipend for accommodation and living expense allowances.
