Diploma and degree students in their third or fourth years have a chance at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for paid industrial attachment covering three months from this October.

They will be paid Sh7,000 monthly, according to a public notice that invites the applications. “In support of the Government’s Youth Initiative to develop a pool of young talent for the Kenyan labour market, KRA is seeking applications from continuing undergraduate students in their 3rd, 4th, or final year of study, and diploma students in their final year, for its three-month (October to December 2025) Industrial Attachment Programme,” read part of the statement.

Interested students have up to September 2 to apply for the positions. The revenue agency did not indicate the number of students who will be picked from across the degree programmes.

It is open to Kenyan students pursuing various disciplines but must be aged between 18 and 35 years and provide an introduction letter from their learning institutions.

According to the Youth Initiative, various ministries, departments and agencies are supposed to make available the paid opportunities, offering the learners a lifeline since landing industrial attachments has become rare.

Indeed, some private organisations charge the attachees to come and learn while getting such opportunities in public institutions is increasingly becoming a preserve of few, partly due to the culture of favours and nepotism.

For the KRA programme, the applicants should be available on a full-time basis for the entire three-month period.

All applications must be submitted online through the KRA e-recruitment portal. It is expected that hundreds of thousands of students will be gunning for the positions, leading to a fierce war that will be a gruelling screening for the taxman.

Interested students should register an account on the taxman’s e-recruitment portal and update their profile before applying.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to present proof of personal accident insurance, KRA personal identification number (PIN), Social Health Authority and NSSF membership, a national ID card, and bank account details.

To try and keep unscrupulous agents or brokers at bay, the KRA has clarified that it does not charge fees for the applications.
