Nursing, clinical medicine top KMTC search for 467 lecturers

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has advertised 678 job vacancies with the bulk of the positions being teaching roles as the institutions continues to expand.

Of the lecturer positions, nursing and clinical medicine will take the lion’s share at 200 and 105 respectively, revealing some of its most popular courses.
In an October 10 notice, the KMTC Board said it was recruiting staff for academic, medical, administrative, technical and support positions.

This will be one of the major recruitments by one government institution at a time a number of agencies, ministries and departments have frozen employment and only replace staff due to natural attrition or other causes.
The lecturer positions are in nursing, clinical medicine, dentistry, orthopaedic and trauma medicine, emergency medical technology, community health, and health records. Others are medical lab sciences, public health, medical engineering, occupational therapy, nutrition, radiography, physiotherapy, community oral health, and optometry.

In dentistry, the trainer is seeking a senior lecturer while the rest of the teaching positions are at the level of lecturer II. The applications, whose details are on KMTC website, will close on October 30.

KMTC has been expanding teaching capacity across its 92 campuses and five satellite units where it offers 126 courses.

For more than a year, the government college has been running campaigns online to promote its courses, employability of its graduates and collaborations and partnerships with local international agencies.

One of the top medical trainers in Kenya, Form Four leavers and their families have been competing for KMTC courses over the years, making it a major success story for prospective learners when it was included in the government’s placement portal run by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

Apart from the teaching jobs, it is also hiring an assistant director, a principal officer, tens of communications officers and technologists.

Some of the positions are orthopaedic trauma assistant, orthopaedic technologist, pharmaceutical technologist, physiotherapy assistant, registered clinical officer, registered nurse, medical engineering technologist and medical laboratory technologist.
The college is also recruiting occupational therapy assistants, senior assistant director for ICT, principal legal officer and communication officers.
