The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened the portal for new course applications after the KCSE results were released last month.
Opened on February 7, the exercise runs for 14 days as the first phase. In the past, the application has had up to three phases in efforts to mop as many people as possible, partly with many courses going unfilled.
Apart from the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates, the window is also open to those who sat the national exam since year 2000.

This round of requests is expected to be busier than the past since the placement agency discontinued the school/centre applications.
The applicants will be fighting for courses at universities, TVET institutions, Kenya Medical Training colleges, teacher training colleges, and the new Open University of Kenya.
“The wait is over! The @KUCCPS_Official portal is now open! It’s time to apply for your preferred course in an institution of your choice,” KUCCPS wrote on X on Wednesday.
Degree programmes require at least a C+ (plus) in KCSE while diploma courses need C- (minus) and above.
Those applying for degree studies are allowed to pick a maximum of six courses where 1(a), 1(b), and 1(c) must be similar programmes as diploma programmes allow up to four courses.
Those with a mean grade of D and above can choose eight courses; four for craft and same number for artisan programmes.
Applicants holding D- (minus) and E will pick four choices for artisan programmes.
In last year’s exam, more than 200,000 candidates qualified for direct university entry at a time the government raised the alarm over the more than 48,000 that scored grade E.
While the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said the E grade tally “pained” him, the Basic Education principal secretary Belio Kipsang termed the performance a “huge waste”.
