KMTC gets Sh44 million book donation

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students are headed for a happy ending of the year after receiving a donation of Sh44 million books by Book Aid International and Elsevier.

KMTC says the bulk of the books are 2023 and 2024 publications that will put the government institution on a firmer pedestal regarding the latest technological trends in medical training, giving its graduates a fighting chance globally.

The medical trainer received the consignment on October 4, only two years after landing a Sh22 million donation by the same donors, revealing a healthy working relationship that enhances teaching and learning across its 84 campuses and five satellite units across the country. KMTC offers 95 courses.

Receiving the donation at the college headquarters in Nairobi, board chairperson, Joseah K. Cheruiyot, said the books will strengthen teaching and learning and help to prepare students for both local and global job opportunities.

Kelly Oluoch, the KMTC chief executive, said the books will place the students at par with their counterparts in the Western world that leads in technological advancement.

He emphasised that the donations by the two institutions “have transformed teaching and learning over the years”. Kenyans spend hundreds of millions of shillings to seek treatment in foreign countries where they are sure getting the leading specialists, technologists, and technology.

Over the years, securing KMTC training opportunity has been the dream of many young people interested in courses such as nursing, clinical medicine, dental technology, pharmacy, health records, and midwifery.

While the KMTC initially resisted plans to admit students through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Dentral Placement Service (KUCCPS), there has been a sigh of relief since the medical trainer joined the centralised listing, giving aspirants a fair chance to fight for training opportunities.
