The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and several public universities have announced job opportunities, revealing a sustained expansion as student enrolment grows.

Among the universities recruiting for academic, technical and administrative staff is Bomet that got its full-charter in February this year, increasing Kenya’s total number of universities to more than 80. Also hiring are South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) and Taita Taveta University (TTU).
KMTC, whose admissions run throughout the year through the Kenya Universities and Colleges and Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), is recruiting five senior lecturers in Pharmacy and eight Lecturer II positions in Mortuary Science.
The medical trainer offering diploma and certificate courses is on a full-blown marketing blitz of its courses, new courses and which institutions in Kenya and outside are recruiting its graduates.
Mortuary science and physiotherapy are some of the courses medical trainers are now selling in the quest to grow from the well-known programmes such as nursing and pharmacy that have been the focus of many candidates and families.
During its course placement conferences, KUCCPS has recently been sensititising applicants and their families to think outside the box and go for courses in the arts and sports, especially under the competence-based curriculum.
Among others, such sensitisation has improved enrolment as the government targets 100 percent transition to higher education irrespective of the grade in the national Form Four examination.
KMTC and Utalii College have, through KUCCPS, announced new intake ending on September 14, revealing opportunities available for Form Four candidates and other professionals seeking a chance in the medical and tourism fields.
Incrementally, such opportunities are driving expansion in higher education institutions that must hire for various cadres to meet the growing demand.
Last year, KUCCPS reported that about 700,000 Form Four candidates of 2024 could not be traced to further their education, revealing the toughest assignment of boosting higher learning enrolment.
KMTC is also hiring an assistant director for ICT and several assistant positions in finance, HR, Library, Supply Chain, ICT. The applications close on September 30.
Bomet University is recruiting two deputy registrars in academics and administration; internal auditors; assistant registrar (HR); security officer and supervisor; computer technologist, and several assistants, revealing it is building structures after chartering.
Bomet is accepting applications for the roles until September 28.
South Eastern Kenya University has opportunities for senior lecturers and lecturers in various departments while Taita Taveta University is hiring professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, tutorial fellows and technologists, administrators, and assistants. Applications close on September 28.
Across Kenya’s private and public universities, the total student population has risen to more than 650,000 and it is expected to increase after this year’s university intake went up to more than 200,000.
KUCCPS placed 202,133 candidates to university programmes for the 2026/27 cohort while more than 270,000 had qualified.
